The ICC/NSSA Standard for the Design and Construction of Storm Shelters ICC 500-2008 and/or the Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) publication “Taking Shelter from the Storm: Building a Safe Room for Your Home or Small Business, FEMA P-320, Third Edition, August 2008 and Drawing No. T-01 October 1998, Revised August 2008, are hereby adopted as the part of the International Residential Code, 2006 edition and the International Building Code, 2006 edition for the City of Riley, and are hereby incorporated by reference herein and made a part of this article as authorized in the manner prescribed by K.S.A. 12-3009 to 3012. Three copies shall be stamped “official copy as incorporated by Ordinance No. 1500,” with all sections to be or portions thereof intended to be omitted clearly marked to show any such omission, and shall be filed with the city clerk to be open to inspection and available to the public at all reasonable hours. One of these standards shall be used in the event that a new structure has a safe room or storm shelter constructed within it.
